“Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”-St. Francis of Assisi
Welcome! I am a retired teacher who voluntered with my therapy dog from 2009 to 2013. Due to family health challenges, I am busy being a caretaker in 2014 rather than a volunteer tutor. I tutor 2 hours weekly rather than the previous commitment of 20 hours weekly! Max the Great Pyrenees remains current with his Therapy Dog certification and is presently caring for pregnant dairy goats rather than children during this year.
I began blogging in 2005 with “great-pyrenees.net”, an over 200 page information site about breeding and training Great Pyrenees dogs. I stopped breeding in 2009 and began training dogs for therapy and service work. In 2010, I passed the detailed CCPDT exam to earn their professional dog trainer certification. My blog “thecognitivedog” was filled with training tips for dog owners backed with the offer to freely coach dog owners who were preparing their dogs as service or therapy dogs. Over the years I also built the blogs “tutoringgreatkids and dogshelpkids.org. The Readdogs.net blog is the repository for portions of these blogs.
The photos of the children in the ReadDogs blog received tutoring either in the past or are presently receiving support. The following video is a collection of one school year and the students in this K-Grade 2 school.
